Commerce needs to vote 'yes' for hospital bond

COMMERCE — To the editor:

The Nov. 5 Hospital District Bond issue is critical for those of us in Commerce and the surrounding communities. Lack of emergency care close at hand will greatly impact Commerce, its university students and the continuing growth of industry in the area. On a personal note, we have been very fortunate to have a close facility for medical needs. As we and our community get older, immediate care becomes even more necessary and comforting. Our local hospital has served us well, but has outlived its usefulness. An updated outpatient emergency facility will be a great addition to our area.

The cost of providing such a facility for Commerce and the other issues of the proposition will be low. The additional $18 per $100,000 per assessed valuation per year will certainly be worth it.

Join us in voting “For” the hospital district bond. Early voting began Oct. 21. Vote early or on Nov. 5. We have no guarantee of a local medical facility if the bond does not pass.

  • City of Commerce needs to help library

On April 3, the Commerce Public Library was approached by 15 citizens who took shelter there from a tornado threat and hail storm. Everyone went to the basement for safety because the siren was blowing.

  • Kudos to Wolfe City, Commerce firefighters

    To the editor:
I just wanted to properly thank the Wolfe City firefighters who brought two trucks and the Commerce firefighters as well for coming so quickly to put out our structure fire. Although it was full of treasures and necessities both, these men prevented our house and barn and second shop from burning. They came quickly enough and they worked very hard.

  • Adoption, spaying/neutering answers to overcrowding of no-kill shelters

    To the editor:
Weekly I walk several municipal shelters to pull animals that are up for euthanasia. This is a hard job to do, but the rewards are great. Animal Control provides a wonderful service to the community by keeping our streets free of roaming animals. Sad to say there are more animals than space available, so animals have to be put to sleep.

  • Cost to build trails is the question

    To the editor:

I just read Opinion/ Guess Viewpoint  of Joe Johnson (BIKER) in Caddo Mills enjoyment of the trails in Florida and Missouri. I have heard that he is a nice guy and grew up around the local area and I respect his opinion. Nothing in his opinion explained how these trails were built and paid for.  So here is my opinion. If someone would research the total cost it took to build this enjoyment using Our taxpayers money it would be in the the millions of dollars level, I am sure.
