Convenient, but special New Year’s delivery

First baby of 2009 delivered to maternity nurse

Jaime Reaves has helped deliver lots of babies, working as a nurse in the Truett and Margaret Crim Maternity Center at the Hunt Regional Healthcare hospital in Greenville.

She and her husband Richard were already the parents of four children, including 8-year-old twins.

So when she went into labor on New Year’s Eve, Reaves knew it was time to get to the hospital. She didn’t have to go very far, though, because Reaves was on duty at the time.

Her son Peyton became the first baby born in Hunt County during 2009 when he arrived a few hours later.

“He came at 5:58 a.m. Thursday exactly,” Reaves said.

Peyton was measured at nine pounds, five ounces and 21.5 inches in length and was immediately something of a celebrity.

Reaves said the couple’s other children, which include an 11-year-old and almost 9-year-old, likely wore out the brand new cameras they got for Christmas taking pictures of their little brother.

“They are old enough to where they are going to be a big help,” she said.

Several area businesses also sent Peyton home with presents. Brookshires, where Richard works, donated formula and diapers; gift cards or certificates were contributed by Pizza Hut, Sally’s Especially For You, Vinnie’s Chicago-style Pizza, J. C. Penney, Wal-Mart, Chick fil-A, and the Scrappin’ Shack.

Beall’s sent a tote bag, Starbucks some coffee, Adkisson’s a floral bouquet and Carrie’s Cuts offered to give Peyton his first haircut, when he gets just a little older.
