“She totally vanished”

No clues in disappearance of Lisa Chandler

Eight months ago, Lisa Chandler disappeared from her home near Wolfe City.

Despite a widespread and well-publicized search, Chandler remains missing. There have been no sightings, no clues and investigators have no idea where to turn next.

“It is such a funny thing how she totally vanished,” said Hunt County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Robert White.

Family members refuse to give up, although her son, Chris Chandler, fears the worst.

“You’ve got to suspect foul play,” he said. “You’d be an idiot not to.”

The family has posted a $1,000 reward for information about Chandler, who disappeared from her home on Highway 34 North on the afternoon of Sept. 23, 2007. Her family was unable to reach her when they tried to call her at around the same time the next day.

Chandler may have begun walking south along Highway 34 toward Greenville from her residence and may have been picked up by a passing motorist. Sheriff’s investigators were able to track Chandler’s scent with bloodhounds five miles along the highway before the trail ended.

Chris Chandler said he would personally increase the reward to $10,000, if need be, as he is frustrated at the lack of information, noting he has not heard anything from investigators for months.

“It still doesn’t make sense to me,” he said, adding his mother’s belongings were found inside the home, untouched, despite the door being unlocked and the windows being open. He admits Lisa Chandler was known to have acquaintances who may have been involved with drugs, but he does not know for certain if anyone was involved in her disappearance.

“They basically tell me the same thing,” Chris Chandler said of his conversations with investigators. “Nothing’s been confirmed and, as far as I know, no one has come forward.”

White said it is unusual in a missing persons case to have someone gone for so long and to not hear anything about them.

“Every time I go by that house I wonder where she went to,” White said. “Right now, it is just out there. We’ve got absolutely nothing.”
