Officers deal with gun, horses, donkeys and a battery

Personnel with the Commerce Police Department responded during the past week to multiple burglary calls.

Officers also were likely surprised by what they found on the streets of the city, according to the list of calls routed through the Commerce Police Department dispatch between 5 a.m. last Friday, Oct. 23 and 5 a.m. Wednesday.

A burglary of a habitation was reported in the 1500 block of Bonham at 1:19 p.m. Tuesday, a burglary was listed in the 600 block of Culver at 8:11 a.m. Saturday and a burglary of a vehicle was reported in the 1300 block of Chestnut at 12:53 a.m. Saturday.

A battery was reported to be in the middle of Live Oak Street at 10:02 a.m. Friday, a gun was found in the 2000 block of Wolfe City Drive at 6:42 p.m. Friday, horses were reported in a parking lot in the 2100 block of Live Oak at 7:42 p.m. Friday, and officers were asked to assist Hunt County with loose donkeys on State Highway 24 North at 2:26 a.m. Sunday.

Officers were also dispatched to assist another agency with a decontamination in the 1100 block of Sycamore at 1:06 a.m. Sunday.

Among the other police and fire calls listed during the past week, there were 58 traffic stops, two accidents and one call each for a motorist assist, reckless driver, road hazard and abandoned vehicle.

There were a dozen ambulance/medical calls, six escorts, five fire alarms and two prisoner transports.

Officers met with complainants seven times, investigated six calls of suspicious vehicles/persons, handled five disturbance calls, broke up three fights and responded to three criminal mischief reports, two thefts and two welfare concerns.

There was one call each listed during the past week for prowler, unknown type/nature, arrest, 911 hang-up, warrant service, animal call and public intoxication.
