Tips lead to arrest and seizure of large amount of K2 drug

COMMERCE — A Commerce resident and business owner landed in jail after she was found to be in possession of a large quantity of synthetic marijuana commonly referred to as K2.

On Sept. 18, just before 12 p.m. detectives from the Commerce Police Department along with investigators from the Sulphur Springs Special Crimes Unit made contact with the owner and manager of Smoke Supply located in the 1600 block of State Highway 24 in Commerce.  Officers were following up on information received by both agencies concerning the sale at the store of a synthetic marijuana product commonly known as K2.

Officers determined that Julia Tang was in possession of about 200 grams of the K2 and that it was packaged for sale.

 Ms. Tang was arrested and brought to the Commerce Police Department were she was booked in on a violation of the Texas Health and Safety Code for Manufacture / Delivery of a controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2-A with over 4 grams but under 400 grams. 

This offense is a first degree felony because the offense occurred in a Drug Free Zone. 

This arrest is the culmination of months of investigation into distribution of a substance of this kind in the area.

 Ms. Tang was subsequently transferred to the Hunt County Jail where she posted a $20,000 bond and is free on bond pending a trial.
