COMMERCE — Dallas Police Chief David Brown will be on the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus on April 25 to give a speech in the Traditions Room of the Rayburn Student Center.

The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice’s Master of Science in Applied Criminology Program has invited Brown to speak as part of their new Distinguished Speaker Series. From 10-11 a.m., Brown will talk to students, faculty and the community about crime reduction strategies he has implemented as a professional. The event is free to the public, and the doors will close at 10 am on Friday.

“The College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts and the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice is thrilled that Chief Brown will be on campus to address an audience of students, faculty and staff on the successful crime reduction strategies he has employed in Dallas,” said Associate Dean Dr. Melinda Schlager. “As the Director of the MS in Applied Criminology program, I am particularly honored that he will serve as the inaugural speaker for the MS in Applied Criminology Distinguished Speaker Series, a series that will bring together experts and leaders in the field of criminal justice to address critical issues in the field.”

Brown is a 30 year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, where he oversees more than 4,000 employees. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, the FBI National Executive Institute, the Senior Management Institute for Police, the National Counter-Terrorism Seminar in Tel Aviv, Israel, and the United States Secret Service Dignitary Protection Seminar in Washington, D.C.
