Tigers fall to Eagles, Lady Tigers triumph

COMMERCE — The Commerce High School boys varsity basketball team lost to Como-Pickton on Jan. 11 63-56, despite a strong fourth quarter effort that saw them outscore the Eagles 14-13. The Tigers hosted Winnesboro Tuesday night and will travel to Grand Saline on Jan. 19.

The Lady Tigers suffered a loss to Alba-Golden on Jan. 5, 34-24. Senior Mouer Kelsey led the team with nine points in the defeat. Seniors Morgan Doolin and Kadijah Pannell contributed nine total rebounds a piece.

Commerce quickly recovered with a 52-40 victory over Lone Oak on Jan. 8. The Lady Tigers outscored their opponents 14-2 in the pivotal final quarter. Kelsey again led the way with 19 points on five of 16 shooting. Junior Taite McBee added 16 points and a game-high 16 boards, including eight offensive rebounds. Senior Rebekah Cooper contributed nine points.

The Lady Tigers then doubled up Como-Pickton on Jan. 11, 42-21. The Commerce defense held their opponents to under 10 points in every quarter. Freshman Jordan Sharp had a team-high 14 points on an efficient six of nine shooting night. McBee also registered double-digit points with 11 and added 10 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers hosted Winnesboro Tuesday night and will travel to Grand Saline on Jan. 19.
