Arrest made in car crash that left three injured

COMMERCE — A Greenville man has been arrested in connection with a crash that injured three people.

Will Doss, Jr., 44 of Greenville, was arrested following an investigatoin into a crash that occured on Highway 24/50 on May 7 around 2 p.m. According to a report from the Commerce Police Department, officers responded to the two vehicle crash and found at the scene that a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 50 was struck from behind by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the same directions.

“Investigators suspect that the driver that caused the crash had alcohol in his system,” the report read. “At the time of the crash, the occupants from both vehicles were transported to the hospital with major injuries.”

Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews said they are currently waiting on the results of a blood test from the Texas Department of Public Safety that will conclusively determine whether Doss was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Results could take from between six to eight weeks to come back. Crews said that Commerce officers could smell alcohol on Doss’ breath.

According to Crews, Doss was treated and released the night of the accident, as was the male driver of the other car. A female passenger required a more extensive stay in the hospital, but her current status is unknown at this time.

Doss was arrested on May 9 on a charge of intoxicated assualt with a vehicled causing serious bodily injury, a felony three charge. He was booked into Hunt County Jail and is being held there on a $25,000 bond pending trial. The investigation was conducted by the Commerce Police Department.
