Celebrating Independence Day at Centennial Park

COMMERCE — For those looking to celebrate Independence Day with a bang, what better way is there than fireworks?

The Commerce Chamber of Commerce is hosting a 4th of July Celebration and fireworks show on July 6 at Centennial Park.

The event begins at 5 p.m. and will end with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.

Speaking about the fireworks show, Doug Rohrabaugh, executive director for the Chamber of Commerce, said the company went all out this year.

“They really stepped it up this year,” he said. “We’re expecting an awesome show.”

Admission is free, but the chamber is asking for patrons to bring at least one can of food or a monetary donation for the Commerce Food Pantry.

“We strongly encourage people to bring a canned food item,” he said. “We love to be generous and help out as many people as we can.”

As an incentive to bring a donation to the Pantry, everyone who brings a canned food or donates is put into a raffle to win a free two-night stay in the Jacuzzi suite at Magnuson Hotel in Commerce.

“It will be great for a slumber party, or a great place to throw your in-laws when they’re down for Thanksgiving,” he said.

Live bands will play throughout the evening, including Shaun Michaels, the Cross Trails Band, and Outta Hand will finish out the evening with their live performance.

“We have three really good bands this year,” he said.

The Commerce Rotary Club is sponsoring a blood drive during the event.

As entertainment for kids, the Kiwanis Club has a children’s train that will take them around the park for $2 per ride.

Pa Pa’s Ponies will also be at the event and will have pony rides at $5 per ride.

Free events for children are bounce houses, a balloon artist, and a mechanical bull provided by CrossTrails Cowboy Church.

To help satisfy patron’s appetites, the Commerce Tigersharks will be serving hot dogs, chips and drinks as a fundraiser for the team.
