GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FACED CHALLENGES IN REBUILDING YEAR

COMMERCE — The Commerce High School girls’ basketball team faced tough competition this year.

Although the team went 10-4 in district play, the girls fell one game short of making the playoffs.

“This was good for a rebuilding year,” Head Coach Le’Mone Ards said. “We had some younger women step up. We were always right there in the hunt for third place.”

According to Ards, alhtough the district was tough, the girls were able to clench some big victories, including a win over Edgewood at home in overtime and Alba Golden at home.

Ards singled out three players she said stood out this year.

“Senior Kelsey Mouer was the leader on the court,” she said. “Senior Kaci Harrison led in defense. I could put her on anyone’s best player and she could maintain and control them.”

Ards said that junior Taite McBee was the best all-around player, and expects her to step up and fulfill the leadership role that will be left by Mouer.

Ards said the team was able to feed off of the large crowds that attended the home games.

“We got a lot of support from the community for our home games,” she said. “They enjoy hearing the crowds cheer for them.”
