COMMERCE — Nothing beats Texas barbecue, especially when it’s for a good cause.

The annual Boots & BBQ Fundraiser will be held on April 6 at 6 p.m. inside Commerce High School. The event is hosted by the Commerce Schools Educational Enrichment Foundation (CSEE).

Last year, the event raised more than $20,000, and helped allow the foundation to fund nine projects for Commerce Independent School District for the 2012-13 school year, including a fourth grade field trip to Austin and donating $36,000 for the iGive for iPad initiative.

“They have gone above and beyond what a school district can normally do,” Ludonna Smithers, director of personnel and communications for Commerce ISD said. “They are just avid supporters of our students.”

Tickets are $25 each, and can be purchased by calling Betty Brown at 903 886-3755 or coming to the Central Administration Building at 3315 Washington St.

Donors wishing to become a Foundation Champion may make a tax deductible donation of $200, and comes with two tickets to the event.
