University to host Korean Consul-General

COMMERCE —

Texas A&M University-Commerce will host a distinguished international politician today as former ambassador and Consul-General of the Republic of Korea Suk-Bum Park visits the campus.

Park will present a lecture on U.S.-Korean relationships and the future of American and Asian relations. Park’s visit is sponsored by the Office of Global Programs and the Department of Political Science, and is the brain-child of assistant professor of Political Science Dr. Jangsup Choi.

“It is a big deal with international implications for the university,” A&M-Commerce’s Dr. Jeffrey Herndon said. “He is a high-ranking official and a former ambassador. Dr. Jangsup Choi worked tirelessly to set up this lecture.”

Park served as the ambassador to Bangladesh from 2007 to 2010 and Iraq from 2010 to 2012. Before his time as an ambassador, Park worked in the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He currently offices in Houston.

“Preparing students for a globalized world has become increasingly significant at A&M-Commerce,” Choi said. “This event will provide students an opportunity to meet and hear from a highly-ranked Korean diplomat. Ambassador Park’s lecture can help our students to be confident in understanding current global trends and issues and preparing for a globalized world.”

The lecture may be even more relevant to dozens of South Korean A&M-Commerce students. In 2012 the university became home to 148 Korean students through a partnership with Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin today at 2:30 p.m. in BA-109 of the McDowell Administration Building
