COMMERCE — A local woman, charged with murder involving the stabbing death of a Greenville man, also has a trial pending on an unrelated indictment alleging she assaulted a Commerce police officer.

A pretrial hearing was conducted Tuesday in the 354th District Court concerning Myeisha Simone Garcia, 20 of Commerce. Garcia was indicted by the Hunt County grand jury in August on one count of assault against a public servant. Garcia was alleged in the indictment to have attacked a Commerce Police Department officer, who was attempting to place her under arrest, on Jan. 8. She has pleaded not guilty.

Jury selection in the case had been scheduled in the case for Jan. 7, 2013. The case was reset following Tuesday’s hearing for a status hearing on March 20, 2013.

Garcia remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond on one count of murder involving the Nov. 28 death of Jamal Stanton, 20, of Greenville.

Stanton died of a stab wound to the upper left torso, after reportedly being involved in an altercation at a Commerce apartment complex.

Garcia has not yet been indicted in connection with the alleged murder.
