New art exhibit to open at A Space

The Commerce Journal

COMMERCE — A Space Art Gallery, located at 1209 Alamo Street in downtown Commerce, will be holding an opening for Walt Davis’ All Natural: Watercolors exhibit on Jan. 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The exhibit includes large scale watercolors and a found object assemblage. Several paintings explore the amazing shapes and colors of the exotic creatures that live among us but are rarely seen up close.  One work entitled Insectarium was included in the annual show of the American Watercolor Society in New York this past April. Other paintings pay homage to the Texas landscape, and a collection of human artifacts juxtaposed with natural objects sets up a dialog about the passage of time.

The artist, Walt Davis, spent 25 years at the Dallas Museum of Natural History building exhibits and traveling throughout the state collecting material for scientific collections and dioramas. He draws upon that experience to create works of art that invite the viewer to take a second look at the beauty and mystery of the natural world we so often take for granted.
