Farewell to the kilt

COMMERCE — On April 27, Commerce will lose its second restaurant in as many months.

City Froyo announced that it would be closing due to a lack of business through its Facebook page, and now the Kilted Monkey announced by way of its page that it would be closing on April 27.

“We regret to inform you that Saturday April 27 will be our last day of business,” the statement read. “We want to thank Commerce for supporting us through Izzy’s and The Kilted Monkey for the past few years. We are grateful for all of the friendships we have made and hope that we will continue with these after this chapter closes.”

The Kilted Monkey, previously Izzy’s Cakes, was open for seven months before it announced it was closing.

Owner Rusty Massey said running a business was beginning to take its toll.

“It takes a lot to run the business,” he said. “Me being a fireman, it takes a lot of time.”

Massey said other options have opened up for him at this time but he won’t be looking to do any more restaurants any time soon.

“I’m not going to be doing any other businesses,” he said.
