'No Excuses'

Kyle Maynard to speak at A&M-Commerce Wednesday

COMMERCE — “No Excuses” is a motto many people live by.

This can be no more true than for Kyle Maynard, an ESPY Award winner, record-setting weight lifter and the first person to crawl up Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.

Maynard did all these with arms that end at his elbows and legs that end at the knees.

Maynard was born with a severe form of the rare condition, congenital amputation, where he was born with missing portions of his arms and legs.

According to Maynard’s biography and book, “No Excuses,” his parents wanted him to live a life of normalcy and taught him to be self-sufficient as best he could be.

Maynard can type, drive with little modification and lives in his apartment without the help of an aid.

Maynard will share his story at the event “No Excuses, Featuring Kyle Maynard” on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. inside the Ferguson Auditorium at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

The event is open to students of A&M-Commerce and the community.

The event is sponsored by the vice president of Business and Administration, Lion Athletics and Student Disability Resources & Services.
