Commerce residents soon have an opportunity to enjoy a movie under the stars, thanks to an event sponsored by Churchill at Commerce and the Commerce Parks and Recreation Department.
Churchill’s Community Director Jeannie Creed said the first event they held, back in April, was a huge success and she hopes to follow in those footsteps with a showing of “The LEGO Movie” on Aug. 23 around 7:30 p.m. in the City Park.
“I’ve been on the property for seven years, and I’ve wanted to do something for the community for some time. I was thinking about something cool that I would like to take my kids to, and a movie in the park seemed like a great idea.”
Creed said the Parks and Rec Department were all for the idea. She said there is a company that works in the apartment industry that also runs events that she was able to work with.
“There is an inflatable screen that they set up,” she said. “We’ll have free popcorn, and people can bring drinks and food, lawnchairs and blankets.”
According to Creed, residents of all ages should enjoy the movie, which she hopes will do a good job of following up on the April movie, “Frozen.”
“I’m not sure we’ll be able to top that,” she said. “That was pretty much the blockbuster hit of the year, and The Lego Movie was number two.”
