‘Gene’ Hunt

“Gene” Everett Eugene Hunt, 86, of Commerce, died April 2, 2008, at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. A graveside service with military honors was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rosemound Cemetery with Brother Terry Bryan officiating. Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born Jan 22, 1922, in Klondike, he was the son of Everett Emerson and Leoda Williams. He married Dorothy Gant on Oct. 5, 1940. Mr. Hunt was a retired electrician, farmer and jack-of-all-trades. He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Yokahoma, Japan, as a military policeman. Gene built the first ice maker in the Commerce area.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Barbara Speight and husband Robert Lee; grandchildren Angela Findly and Paul, Robby Speight and Jennifer, Rhonda Robinson and Mark, Charles M. Hunt and Tiara, and James P. Hunt and Linda; great-grandchildren Casey Petty and Kim, Lacy Griffin and Jeff, Rachel Eddingfield and Adam, Dustin Speight, Weston Speight, Colton Speight, Gabby Speight, Katie Robinson, Lauren Robinson, Sarah Robinson, Michael Robinson, Jessica Hunt, Taylor Hunt, Chloe Hunt and James Hunt; and great-great-grandchildren Amy Eddingfield, Annie Eddingfield, Brandon Petty, Blake Petty, Seth Goodman, Shea Goodman, Zane Speight, Cory Griffin, Trista Griffin and Mara Griffin.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Hunt in 2007, and two brothers, B.M. Hunt and David Hunt.

Jeanine Lowrie

Velma Jeanine Lowrie, 70, of Cumby died April 4, 2008, in Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday in the Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home chapel with Brother Jerry Clements and Brother Roy Lee Dittmar officiating. Burial followed in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Daughter of L.W. and Clysta Grace Alexander Roundtree, she was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Hunt County. She was married to Anson Lowrie. Jeanine enjoyed collecting antiques and also enjoyed taking care of her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Miller Grove.

Surviving are her husband; five sons, Anson Lowrie Jr., Jimmy Don Lowrie, Kenneth Lowrie, Rodney Lowrie and James “Boone” Lowrie, all of Cumby; grandchildren Lisa Baker, Josh Lowrie, Anna Lowrie and Amy Lowrie; great-grandchildren Autumn Price, Dani Baker and Dakota Baker; a brother, William Roundtree; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Ray Hunter, Josh Lunsford, Jeremy Lunsford, Jimmy Jones, Ron Lowrie and Bob Morris.

ONA LOU STEWART

Graveside services for Ona Lou Stewart, 77, of Cumby will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Restlawn Memorial Park with Bro. Don Stewart officiating. West Oaks Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs was in charge of arrangements.

Michael Stewart, Billy Bob Stewart, Jason Venable, Josh Snider, Kyle Holland and Charlie Clampitt served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Stewart died April 6, 2008, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. She married thomas Stewart in Brashear. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Stewart worked as a weights engineer at E-Systems for more than 20 years. She was a homemaker and was of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors include one son, Gerald Stewart and wife Donna of Cumby; one sister Billie Clifton; grandchildren Kelli Raye Snider, Candi Brownlee, John and Russell Skeen; and great-grandchildren Rileigh, Hunter and Zoe Snider, Dylon and Victoria Brownlee.

Jay Logue

Jay Lawrence Logue, 87, of Commerce died April 5, 2008, at Oak Manor Nursing Home in Commerce. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Lisa Greenwood-Wolcott officiating. Burial followed in Rosemound Cemetery.

Son of Jesse and Lena Cameron Logue, he was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Owaneco, Ill. He and his wife Lillian were married Sept. 6, 1952, in Peoria, Ill. He attended public schools in Illinois, received his B.S. degree at Eastern Illinois State University in 1944, his M.S. degree at Penn State University in 1948 and his doctorate in education at the University of Missouri in 1959. Mr. Logue taught in public schools in Illinois, Florida and Missouri. He was also a professor of industrial education and technology for 32 years at East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University-Commerce).

He enjoyed traveling, sports, and giving trivia questions to children and grandchildren about geography. He enjoyed telling stories about his childhood and funny things about it. Mr. Logue was a member of First United Methodist Church of Commerce, Lions Club, Nickel Coffee Club and Phi Delta Kappa.

Surviving are his wife of Commerce; two daughters, Wanda Stanley and husband Gary of Plano and Maxine Logue of Garland; two sons, Karl Logue of Austin and Michael Guy Logue of Dallas; grandchildren Heather Stanley, Charles Gregory Stanley, Patrick Stanley and Brad Logue; his basketball team with one sub; his great-grandsons, Nathan Stanley, Justin Stanley, Brandon Stanley, Joseph Logue, Austin Charles and Dylan Charles; sisters Wilma Ramsey of Mount Zion, Ill., Norma Reinecke of Taylorville, Ill., and Lucille Mollohan of Pana, Ill.; and a brother, Jack Logue of Pekin, Ill.

His parents and a brother, Carl Logue, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Gary Stanley, Karl Logue, Jim Garon, Greg Stanley, Brad Logue and Patrick Stanley. Members of the Nickel Coffee Club were honorary pallbearers.
