Wanda Malone

COMMERCE — Wanda R. Malone, 67, of Brashear died May 10, 2008, in Paris, Texas. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs. A private burial was planned by her Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home family.

Born Dec. 20, 1940, in Hopkins County, she was the daughter of Thomas Leonard and Ura Lillian Harrison Petty and was the first of three daughters born following seven sons. Wanda was raised in Brashear and attended Miller Grove School. She was married to Jarrell Hugh Malone on May 20, 1955, in Brashear. She loved being a wife, mother and Maw-Maw. She worked as an optical assistant for many years and as a funeral assistant at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home for many years. She loved playing the piano and organ and singing southern gospel music. She was well known for her cooking and love for life and laughter.

Survivors include her husband; daughters LaTresia Lynn Logan and husband Keith, LaWana Gwenn Powell and husband John, and Amie Beth Strawn and husband Brad, all of Sulphur Springs; a son, Jarrell Delane Malone and wife Eileen of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren Brian Keith Logan and wife Emmy, Shane Benton Powell, Landon Ryan Logan and wife Summer, Sidney Capri Strawn and Ethan Wyatt Strawn, all of Sulphur Springs, LaShay Brooke Powell of Arlington, Brennon Lane Malone of Plano; Bradley Coleman Strawn of Springfield, Mo., and Hope Malone of Wylie; great-granddaughters Lexi Dawn Logan and Karlee Capri Strawn; one brother, Gilbert Petty of Brashear; two sisters, Brenda Dodd of Brashear and Diana Whittle of Sulphur Springs; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Ardis, Max Gene, Cecil, Tommy, Willard and Rex Levon Petty.

Grandchildren were pallbearers. Funeral home family and Tuesday Bible Study Group, aka, Wanda’s Prayer Warriors, were honorary pallbearers.

William Walker Jr.

William Fay Walker Jr., 47, of Quinlan died May 8, 2008, in Garland. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Son of Willillam Fay Sr. and Linda Lee York Walker, he was born Nov. 14, 1960, at Fort Bragg, N.C. He worked for Talley Carnival. He married Judy Strickland Childers. Mr. Walker served in the U.S. Navy.

Surviving are his wife; a stepdaughter, Jamilyn Hunt; stepson Brazos Tabor; a cousin Gary Cannon and wife Chris; and two aunts, Lillian Cannon and Lois Cagle.

His mother and a sister, Amy Walker, preceded him in death.

Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home of Commerce is in charge of arrangements.
