Marjorie Hendrix

COMMERCE — Marjorie Ann Siders Hendrix, 70, of Commerce passed away peacefully Thursday, April 25, 2013, in Tyler of a sudden illness.

Born July 25, 1942, in Gemmell, Minn., to Chauncey Augustus Siders and Clara Ann Brewer Siders, Margie was the second of their three children (Helen Ruth and Ruby Jean) and the 11th of 12 children for Chauncey. She lived on the family homestead in a log cabin built by her father.

Margie met Arthur Frank Hendrix at Meador’s Drug Store where she worked the soda counter, and they were married on March 26, 1959, in Dumas, Ark.

Following graduation from Dumas High School with the class of 1960, she attended Arkansas A&M College and later completed her BBA degree in accounting at East Texas State University.

After graduation she worked at Ainsworth and Lambert, CPA before completing her accounting career at Sherwood Medical Products in Commerce.

Her life included many residences in the early years. Born in Gimmell, Minn., she later moved to Dumas, Ark., after the passing of her father. After high school she moved with her husband to Monticello, Ark., and then to Salinas, Calif., followed by a move to Sacramento, Calif., and then Waco.

While Art attended North Texas State University in 1967, she resided in Denton before finally settling down in Commerce in 1969.

Margie loved everyone, especially her family and friends. Her quick smile and loving nature touched everyone she met. An avid quilter, she was recognized with numerous first-place awards and a Best of Show at the Hunt County Fair.

Margie loved to travel. In addition to many U.S. destinations, her life’s travels included Mexico, Canada, Ireland, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Luxembourg.

She served as treasurer of the Hunt County Woodturners and was a proud supporter of their efforts in the Freedom Pen Project. She and Art hosted exchange students from Japan and Germany who continue to be members of the extended family.

Post retirement was filled with charitable activities, including volunteer work at the Commerce Children’s Museum followed by work with the Commerce Hospital Bargain Box and the Commerce Public Library where she served on the Board of Directors for both organizations at various times as treasurer.

Margie is survived by her husband, Arthur Frank Hendrix of Commerce; four sons, Gregory Hendrix (Tinker Reed), Glenn Hendrix (Debbie Cueto), Steven Hendrix (Melany), and Stuart Hendrix (Ericka); grandchildren Shelby, Garrett , Steven, Hayden, Lucas, Daniel, and Harrison; great-grandchildren Adelina and Liam; and sisters Helen Siders and Ruby Siders.

A family graveside service was held in Ada Valley, Ark. A public memorial service will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall at the Presbyterian Church in Commerce.

Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton, Ark..

The family requests donations be made to a local charity of choice or The Hospice of East Texas.
