A&M-C's Johnson to play in basketball invitational

Texas A&M University-Commerce senior forward Scooby Johnson is one of 64 players selected to participate in the upcoming Collegiate Basketball Invitational, April 24-26 in Wadsworth, Ohio.

The event enables senior student athletes from NCAA Division II and III and the NAIA levels play in front of scouts of basketball teams on a national and an international level. Throughout the three days, Johnson will play on a team that will play multiple others throughout the event, culminating with an all-star game on April 26, live on ESPNU at 7 p.m.

Johnson was recently named to the 2008 Daktronics all-America third team.

He led A&M-Commerce to the championship game of the Lone Star Conference tournament, before the Lions dropped a 72-70 decision to NCAA Elite Eight participant Central Oklahoma. Johnson was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 19.7 points and 7.7 rebounds in the three games.

Prior to the tournament, Johnson was named to the first team all-Lone Star Conference North Division as well as the Lone Star Conference North Division Newcomer of the Year. Johnson led the Lone Star Conference in scoring with 20.7 points per game was third in field goal percentage (59.2 percent) and was fifth in rebounding (7.7 rpg).
