Commerce senior Anthony Henry was named the offensive most valuable player in basketball for the 2007-8 Herald-Banner Dream Team Basketball Team.
Henry shared the honor with Royse City senior Justin Crutchfield. Henry was the MVP of 10-3A and Crutchfield earned the offensive MVP award for that district.
Cameron Nelson, a Commerce sophomore, was also named a first team selection for the Dream Team, while Arin Henly and Derek Hines both received honorable mention.
Choosing a most valuable player off the No. 1 state-ranked Caddo Mills Foxes was nearly an impossible task this past basketball season.
The 26-2 Foxes had eight players who stepped up big throughout the season, taking turns leading the Foxes in scoring, rebounding, assists and big plays. Those eight shared most valuable player honors on the Dream Team.
The award goes to seniors Desmond Brigham, Eric Jeffery, Derrick Jeffery and Ryan Cooper along with juniors Ryan Calender, Demarcus Grant and Chris Mercer and sophomore Nathan Jeffery. Brigham earned all-state honors for the Foxes in each of the past two seasons and was selected as the MVP of District 12-2A. Eric Jeffery earned the offensive player of the year award in 12-2A and Derrick Jeffery earned defensive MVP honors. Cooper and Calender were first-team all-district selections. Nathan Jeffery made the second team and Demarcus Grant and Chris Mercer made the honorable mention list.
Caddo Mills coach Jeff Smith, who’s coached the Foxes to playoff wins in each of the past two seasons, claimed coach of the year honors for the Dream Team.
Justin Jacobs of Royse City captured the defensive MVP award for the Dream Team after claiming top defensive honors in 10-3A.
Two freshmen who made impacts on their team captured newcomer honors: Cooper Jones of Lone Oak and Kailob Wallace from Boles.
Players from Miller Grove, Campbell, Farmersville, Community, Commerce, Quinlan Ford, Cumby, Boles, Greenville, Lone Oak, Fannindel, Rains, Wolfe City and Bland were named to the top three teams. Players from Greenville Christian and Greenville Phoenix were among the players on the honorable mention list.
