The Commerce High School Lady Tigers defeated the Cumby High School Lady Trojans in three sets on Aug. 13 in Commerce.
The season opener began positively for Commerce, who started fresh after losing six seniors from their regional finals team last season.
“I’m very excited for this season,” head coach Sarah Fielden said. “We are a very young team, but we have some excellent leadership from our four returning seniors. Our captains Logan Talley and Laney Davidson really get the team motivated to challenge last year’s success. We have so much going on the court and I can’t wait to see it develop as they play together.”
The Lady Tigers won the three sets 25-17, 25-17 and 25-15. According to Fielden, the offensive standouts were seniors Bailee Mulchahy, Taite McBee and Talley. Leading the defense were sisters Laney and Riley Davidson.
Commerce will travel to Melissa tonight to compete in the Colin County SpikeFest. They will face Farmersville Friday night in Farmersville.
The freshman and junior varsity teams also started their seasons well with sweeps against Cumby.
