A&M-Commerce Athletic Director Ryan Ivey today unveiled a new Lion athletic logo, which will become the primary A&M-Commerce Athletics logo, effective immediately.
The new logo features an updated Lion head and does away with the circular border as well as the name of the institution. Along with the new logo, A&M-Commerce Athletics will have a new type font – one that will help provide a unique look to the department.
“We are excited about our new marks and branding initiative,” Ivey said. “Our new marks give us a bold, yet regal look to help differentiate us in the marketplace. In addition our new branding and marketing campaign, ‘We Are Lions’ provides us a great chance to increase our exposure and generate solid brand awareness.
“With all of the new changes occurring with Lion Athletics we felt this was the right time to update and enhance out branding efforts.”
A&M-Commerce Athletics’ new logo was designed by Torch Creative in Dallas, a company whose portfolio includes clients such as the National Hockey League, the National Basketball Association and Collegiate Licensing Company. Brad Bishop, a 1995 East Texas State graduate, spearheaded the project.
“Being asked by my alma mater to develop a new athletic identity is truly an honor and one of the most exciting experiences of my career,” said Bishop. “The process began with a trip down memory lane while visiting the campus a few months back. I was able to witness firsthand the growth and development of the campus, as well as some of the new ideas that were being planned for the future. In addition to the campus visit, I was also able to get a grasp on how the current Lion mark was being used.
“In terms of the design for the new Lion, my goal was to keep the same clean/classic look and feel which was similar to the current Lion head, while providing a strong, iconic mark that appeared regal and proud.”
“I can’t thank A&M-Commerce enough for the wonderful opportunity to provide my services back to my alma mater, and I look forward to seeing the Lion in use. Likewise, I can’t wait to purchase some of the new merchandise as soon as it is available!”
Implementation of the new logo will be phased in over the next few years, replacing the current spirit logo. The logo is already prominent featured on the Lions’ new football field, which has garnered a significant amount of attention as one of the nation’s largest midfield logos, and will be replaced on the court at the Field House and other athletic facilities over the next couple of years.
Plans are already in the works for new A&M-Commerce apparel featuring the new Lion logo. In addition, A&M-Commerce coaches will be integrating the new logo into their uniforms and promotional materials over the coming seasons.
