LeBlanc signs with Lions

COMMERCE — Kayleigh LeBlanc’s transition from high school to college will be easier than most.

After all, the Commerce High School senior will simply be trading in her Lady Tiger orange and black for Texas A&M University-Commerce’s blue and gold.

But LeBlanc, who signed to play on the Lions’ brand new softball program, will be a forerunner for both Commerce High School and A&M-Commerce.

“I can’t say enough about how big of a day this is for our softball program,” CHS volleyball coach Jeff Davidson said. LeBlanc is CHS’s first college softball signee. “This is the first day we’ve had a young lady who signed a softball scholarship with a university. This accomplishment is not a simple thing.”

LeBlanc, who signed her offer in the CHS library, was surrounded by schoolmates, teammates, family and four of her future Lion teammates.

“I received offers from Arizona to Illinois, and I decided after talking to coach (Richie) Bruister and coach (Jenna) DeLong to take the next step toward my biggest goal at A&M-Commerce,” LeBlanc said.

The softball program, which was announced earlier this year, will begin its first official season in 2015. Head Coach Richie Bruister, who came to A&M-Commerce from Texas Woman’s University, announced an inaugural signing class of 13 players on Nov. 15. LeBlanc is one of two catchers in the class. The senior has a career batting average of .464 with 66 RBI, 25 doubles and four homeruns. She plans to major in education and sports management.
