A&M-Commerce announces women’s golf schedule

COMMERCE — The Texas A&M University-Commerce golf program announced the 2012 women’s fall schedule, which gets underway the middle of September. The Lion women will compete in four events in the fall, three of which will be tournaments A&M-Commerce competed in in 2011.

A&M-Commerce opens up the 2012-13 campaign in Amarillo, competing in the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Stampede Sept. 10th and 11th at the Tascosa Country Club. The Lions then make the trip to San Angelo, competing in the Angelo State Concho River Classic at Tierra Verde Golf Club September 17th and 18th.

Up next for the Lions is the UCO Broncho Classic October 1st and 2nd at the Lincoln Park East Course in Edmond, Okla. A&M-Commerce tied for 18th in the 2011 installment of the Broncho Classic, which traditionally brings in some of the top teams in the region.

The Lions then remain close to home, making the short trip into the Metroplex for the Dallas Baptist Golf Classic October 15th and 16th at the Golf Club of Dallas. A&M-Commerce placed 11th in 2011, shooting a season-low 309 in round one.

The fall season wraps up with a trip to Lawton, Okla. for the Oklahoma Invitational at Fort Sill Golf Course Oct. 22nd and 23rd. A&M-Commerce will look to build off its sixth-place finish at the 2011 tournament.

Expectations are high for the 2012-13 women’s team as the Lions return the entire roster from 2011-12, which culminated in a third-place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships.  All-LSC selection Chantry McMahan returns for her junior season as does Sara Diaz, Haley Green, Holly Jenkins and Chelsea McCoy as the five comprised head coach Louie Bledsoe’s lineup for the 10 events of 2011-12. Sophomore Brittany Riewe returns with a year of experience under her belt while the Lions added a strong freshman in Ali Leasor, who should also compete for a spot in the lineup as well.

The spring portion of A&M-Commerce’s 2012-13 schedule will be released later this fall.
