The 2013 A&M-Commerce Lion Safari Tour gets underway tonight, making its first stop in Houston. The tour visits Minute Maid Park for the Houston Astros game against the Chicago White Sox at 7 p.m. this evening, before heading to Austin tomorrow.
Several of the A&M-Commerce head coaches, as well as Athletic Director Ryan Ivey and members of the Athletic Department administration will be in attendance to meet and mingle with attendees.
The tour will cover eight cities over a two-week span. Visiting locations such as Houston, Austin, Frisco, Dallas and Mesquite, the Safari Tour is designed to reach out to Lions across the state and keeping them informed about the latest happenings in the A&M-Commerce Athletic Department. The newly formed Lions Athletic Club, football season tickets and corporate sponsorships will be the main focus of the gatherings.
“The Safari Tour is a great opportunity for us to reach out and engage our fan base while providing a platform to push the upcoming season,” said Ivey. “We want to provide our fans and supporters an opportunity to be involved, whether it’s through a membership with the Lions Athletic Club, season tickets, corporate sponsorships or physical support. This is a new day in Lion Athletics and we want all of our fans to be engaged and involved where they desire.”
The initial date in Houston will be an event at Minute Maid Park during the Astros game against the Chicago White Sox. The following day, the tour makes its way to our state capital with a gathering at the Austin Club, located just two blocks from the capital building on Tuesday, June 18th.
The Safari Tour returns to North Texas on Thursday, June 20th as the Tour makes its way to Frisco for the Roughriders baseball game against the Corpus Christi Hooks at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.
Space is limited for both the Houston and Frisco outings as reservations need to be made by contacting Taylor Fore in the A&M-Commerce Development office at (903) 468-8194 or emailing at Taylor.Fore@tamuc.edu.
Sulphur Springs is up next on Friday, June 21st as part of the downtown festival, followed by Dallas on Monday, June 24th, visiting the Iron Cactus (1520 Main Street) beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Lions will stay in the Metroplex, traveling to Mesquite on Tuesday, June 25th for a gathering at Spring Creek BBQ (3939 W. Emporium Circle), getting underway at 5:30 p.m. as well.
The 2013 Lion Safari Tour concludes with two more stops, the first at the Mount Pleasant ISD offices on Thursday, June 27th, followed by the final stop at the Alumni Center on the A&M-Commerce campus on Monday, July 1st.
The Lion Safari Tour is another extension of the Athletic Department’s continued effort to reach out to alumni, fans and supporters across the state of Texas. A&M-Commerce held a series of Town Hall Meetings this past spring, visiting a number of communities in the Northeast Texas area and allowing participants to voice their thoughts and concerns regarding the program and implementing a number of ideas based on those suggestions.
Stay posted to LionAthletics.com, as well as the A&M-Commerce Facebook and Twitter social media pages, for more information surrounding the Safari Tours, including specific locations and times for the various stops.
