Four Commerce Tigers shine in area all-star game

COMMERCE — Four former Commerce Tigers made some big plays at an all-star high school football game on Friday in Tyler.

Quarterback Sam Wells and linebacker Isaiah Martinez of Commerce helped the Blue team to a 38-28 win over the Red in the Fifth Annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ Chick-fil-A Heart of Champions Bowl at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium at Earl Campbell Field.x

Wells, who is headed to the University of North Texas, threw for touchdowns of nine and seven yards to running back Adam Stallings of Athens.

Martinez, who plans to play football at Texas A&M University-Commerce, rang up about six tackles for the Blue defense.

Cornerback Bran Kelley and end Demetric Jennings, also from Commerce, made their presence known on the Red defense.

Kelley, who is planning to walk on at Blinn College, managed some tackles and a couple of pass break-ups. Jennings, who’s headed to Ouachita Baptist in Arkansas, also registered some tackles.

“The Tigers represented Commerce extremely well,” said Scott Wells, Commerce’s former head coach who coached the linebackers for the Blue team. “Not only how they played but how they conducted themselves all week. It was a great time for all of us.”
