Accident tears awning from downtown building

COMMERCE —

The Commerce Police Department is investigating an early morning accident on June 29 which left an awning in the middle of the street.

According to Lt. Jason Rector, the accident occurred shortly after midnight on the 1300 block of Washington Street.

Witnesses on the scene reported seeing a black Chevrolet truck running into the support columns at the location, which caused it to fall into the street.

Rector said the truck would have sustained significant damage to its front end.

Rector asks if anyone has information on the incident to contact the Commerce Police Department at 903.886.1139.
