Demolition of the house at 1509 Caddo Street, the site of the 2005 murder of City of Commerce Code Enforcement Officer Michael "Pee Wee" Walker, began at 10 a.m. Friday morning. A small crowd of onlookers gathered to witness the spectacle, with the house finally being torn down after decades of code violations. Sheryl Zelhart, who was Mayor at the time of the murder, said above the cacophony of crunching wood and metal, that the demolition "gives a certain amount of closure" to the situation.
