The Commerce Fire Department joined several other agencies in responding to a large grass fire in a field off of FM 904 just across the Delta County line Saturday afternoon.

A first responder with the Cooper Fire Department said that an estimated 20-plus acres of land and more than 30 hay bales were affected. The firefighter also said that with the sustained winds in the area, extra measures are being taken to break up the burnt bales to put the fire out more quickly before it can spread.

Fire Departments from Commerce, Cooper, Klondike, Enloe, Pecan Gap and Sulphur Springs were called to put out the blaze.
