UPDATE: This story was updated at 4:22 p.m. on 4/25/19 with information regarding the new acting principal at CMS.
The Commerce Journal has learned that Dr. Shenequa Miller, principal at Commerce Middle School, was placed on administrative leave in the last week and the reason is not initially clear.
A statement from Ludonna Smithers, director of Personnel and Communications for Commerce ISD, said that Miller had been placed on administrative leave effective April 17 pending an investigation. Smithers would not elaborate as to the nature of the investigation, and whether it was being done internally or with the help of law enforcement.
Miller has served as CMS principal since August of 2016, and she came to the district with more than 20 years of experience in public education as a counselor and administrator.
In a news release Thursday, Commerce ISD announced that A.C. Williams Elementary School Assistant Principal Tina Bronson will serve as acting principal at CMS for the time being. Bronson began her career in public education at ACW in 2007.
A request to Miller for comment has not yet been returned.
