Early voting begins Monday for City Council elections and runs until May 1.

Early voting is scheduled to begin Monday for the May 5 election of a single seat on the Commerce City Council.

Incumbent Beckey Thompson is seeking reelection while Perry Pannell has filed to run against her for Place 2 on the council. The Place 2 race is the only contested election on the ballot, as incumbents Gene Lockhart and Wyman Williams ran unopposed for Place 4 and Mayor, respectively.

The winner of the May 5 election will serve a two-year term in Place 2. Thompson has served a single term since being elected in 2016.

Commerce ISD was also supposed to have a Trustee election set for May 5, but all three incumbents up for reelection, Dr. Ray Green, Randy Starks and Etta Herring ran unopposed for their seats, leading CISD to officially cancel its election in March.

Early voting begins April 23 and will be open every weekday until May 1 from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Extended early voting hours will be held on April 24 and 26 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All voting will take place at City Hall, located at 1119 Alamo Street in Commerce.
