The filing period for the May elections of the Commmerce City Council and Commerce Independent School District Board of Trustees is off to a slow start.

Filing for a spot on the May 14 ballot began Feb. 14 and runs through March 14.

On the city council, the terms of Richard Hill and Tony Henry expire in May. Both seats are for two-year terms.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Hill was the only person to file.

In the past week, nobody has filed for the Commerce ISD board.

On the Commerce ISD Board of Trustees, the terms of Board President Willie Blow and trustee Ted Oats will expire in May. Oats filed for re-election Feb. 14.

Both Commerce ISD seats are for full three-year terms.

Application packets for the city council can be picked up at City Hall, located at 1119 Alamo. Trustee application packets can be picked up at the Commerce ISD central administration office, located at 3315 Washington.
