The Commerce Gators swim team competed in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation A- Regional State Qualifying swim meet held in Mesquite last Saturday.

In the girls 13-14 year-old division Jordan Anderson placed sixth overall in the fifty-meter back stroke with a time of 40.78 Anderson also placed seventh overall in the fifty-meter freestyle with a time of 34.72 and eighth overall in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:19.20

Shelbi Davis placed thirteenth overall in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 35.08 and fourteenth overall in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:23.08

In the girls 15-17 year old division Joy Follis placed sixth overall in the 50- meter freestyle with a time of 32.52 and tenth overall in the 50-meter Butterfly with a time of 40.81

In the girls 9-10 year old division Suzi Davis placed thirteenth overall in the 25-meter breaststroke with a time of 25.69

In the girls 8-year-old and under division Kailee Wright placed forty-first overall in the 25-meter freestyle with a time of 35.56

In boys action at the T.A.A.F. B- Regional Swim Meet held in Allen on Saturday July 19. Rodney Hawkins placed fifth overall in the twenty-five yard breaststroke with a time of 36.79 and twentieth overall in the twenty-five yard freestyle with a time of 25.89

In the boys 13-14 year old division Sam McClellan placed fifth overall in the fifty-yard freestyle with a time of 38.47

The Commerce Gators swim season runs from the second week in May to the last week in July.

The Gators have twenty-five competitive swimmers including girls and boys of all ages.

Their oldest swimmer is 16-years -old and their youngest swimmer is 7.

Board President Vickie Curtin of the Commerce Gators said that swimming is fun and good exercise for the kids. “It helps to keep them in shape in a fun and competitive way,” Curtain said.

Vickie’s daughter Karly Curtin is the coach of the Gators.

The Gators have two registration dates in the middle of March and in May.

The Gators are members of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation better known as T.A.A.F. There are 13 regions in the state of Texas. The Gators compete in Region 7; which includes Paris, Bonham, Mesquite, Denison, Allen, Farmers Branch, Grand Prairie, Irving, McKinney, Plano, Rowlett, Carrollton, Garland, Frisco, and Commerce.
