Texas A&M University-Commerce faculty, staff, students, and alumni are invited to celebrate “The Spirit of Sam Rayburn” at 2 p.m. on Feb. 27 outside the Rayburn Student Center. The festivity marks the beginning of a new tradition that will take place on celebratory campus spirit days and other noteworthy events. The nature of this celebration is a carefully protected secret, but attendees will be delighted at its unveiling.

President Dan R. Jones — along with Professor and Head of Liberal Studies, Dr. Donna Dunbar-Odom, and Wendy Morgan, Director of the Rayburn Student Center — will speak to the Lion audience to kick off this commemorative event.

“We are enthusiastic about this event as we think it is a wonderful way to honor the memory of a cherished alumnus, Sam Rayburn, and to create an exciting new tradition at the university,” Morgan said.

Attendees can expect refreshments, photo opportunities, alumni fellowship, as well as the unveiling of the day’s focal point, a new tradition highlighting the spirit of Sam Rayburn, an individual and alumnus who made unparalleled contributions to A&M-Commerce.
