Back to school bash

The annual back-to-school tradition in Commerce is upcoming, and families are encouraged to attend to get a head start on the school year.

The Back to School Bash is entering its third year and is scheduled for the end of the month. The event is aimed at giving students and parents the tools they need to be ready for school. This year, things like health screenings, immunization clinics, school supply assistance and more is on tap for the bash.

Alison Walker with Commerce ISD Health, Safety and Family Services says that the event can help families put also get them in the right mindset for the back-to-school season.

“There are a ton of things families have to do to prepare for the school year,” Walker said. “This helps them be prepared but also generate excitement for the upcoming school year.”

Walker says that they also hope to have bike helmets to give away as well as bike safety information since the previously-planned bike safety rodeo was rained out this year. She also added that they are looking for someone to provide free haircuts on site for students.

The Back to School Bash is scheduled for July 31 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Commerce High School. Anyone wanting to volunteer, set up a booth or simply seeking more information should call Alison Walker at 903-366-0642.
