Commerce's Brad Caldwell (#7) was named the 2019 All-Purpose Player of the Year for District 5-3A1

Senior Brad Caldwell highlighted the Commerce Tigers' selections to the UIL District 5-3A1 All-District football team, as released Friday.

Caldwell was named All-Purpose Player of the Year along with Howe's Jalen Thornton. He joined 14 other Commerce players named to either the District's first or second team.

Receiving first team honors were Xzay Basham at running back, Conner Smith at receiver, Anthony Peak at offensive tackle, Anton Stapleton at offensive guard, Edgar Castillo at punter and Henry Serrano at defensive line.

Second team nods went to Dayton Dunbar at running back, Roy Gaffney at offensive tackle, Taylor Kepley at center, Rueben Casteneda at kicker, Wade Nicholson at safety, Kendrick Greer at inside linebacker, C.J Dunbar at defensive line and Anthony Cork at defensive line.

Honorable mentions were given to J'Den Wilson at both quarterback and safety, Noah Howell at offensive line, Coda Clayton at defensive end, Ashton Seale at cornerback and Brandon Turner at outside linebacker.

Pottsboro garnered most of the awards. The Cardinals were a perfect 6-0 in district play and finished the season at 15-1 after falling to Grandview in the State Championship game 42-35 on Thursday. Pottsboro's Cy Shope was named district MVP after rushing for 1,979 yards and 35 touchdowns on the season.

Commerce finished the season with a 4-7 record and a postseason berth after a fourth-place district finish. The Tigers fell in the first round of the playoffs to Malakoff by a score of 49-3.
