More athletes qualified to advance to the next round, as both the boys and girls track and field teams from Commerce High School finished third in the team standings at the Area-round track and field meet last Thursday in Atlanta, Texas.

The finishes come on the heels of District Championships for both teams the week prior.

More than 30 athletes and relay teams had qualified to advance to the Area round from the district meet, and Commerce had several winners and high finishers on the day last Thursday.

On the boys’ side, Juan Arreguin took home the gold in the 3200m run with a time of 10:24.856. For the girls, Allie Wittkopf won the discus throw with a long toss of 99’1” and Alexis Morgan won the gold medal in the pole vault with a height of 10’6”.

Other qualifiers for the regional meet include Wesley Chavez and Miguel Zavala in the 3200m run, J’Den Wilson in the 300m hurdles, Arreguin in the 1600m run, the 4X400m relay team of Christian Scott, Javion Cornelius, Jaydon Harris and Jeremiah Carpenter, and the 4X200m relay squad featuring Cornelius, Harris, Carpenter and Xzay Basham for the boys.

Girls regional qualifiers include Sarah Anthraper in the 400m dash, Camille Eborn and Viviana Rebodello in the 3200m run, Brooklyn Matthews and Payton Miller in the pole vault, and Eborn in the 1600m run.

The Regional meet will be held April 26 and 27 in Whitehouse, Texas. Those advancing from the regional meet will compete at the state meet in May.
