The tennis teams at Commerce High School had strong showings at the recent District Tournament last week, with the boys team taking home championship honors and the girls finishing as runners up.

On the boys’ side, Evan Humphries led the way, finishing first in boys’ singles play and advancing to the regional tournament. Connor Green and Wesley Chavez were the runners up in boys’ doubles.

In girls’ doubles, Bailey Guinnessey and Sejal Bhasin finished second place.

Laurencio Marquez and Kayla Gossett were second place in mixed doubles and will also advance to regionals. The team of Yessica Trejo and Nathaniel White were fourth.

Junior Varsity also had strong finishes, with the girls sweeping the podium. Brianna Heslop placed first, Emma Wittkopf second and Chamblee Morgan third. Maria Diaz and Vivianna Rebelledo were fourth in girls’ doubles.

Charlie Walker finished third in boys’ singles for the JV squad.
