The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team played close to the No. 1-seeded West Texas A&M Buffaloes in the early going before the game got away from them, falling by a score of 77-61 on Saturday in the Regional Semifinal round of the NCAA Tournament in Canyon.
The scoring didn't come easy for either team, as the game was a relatively low-offense affair. West Texas carried a 30-25 lead at halftime.
After pulling even, A&M-Commerce had the game slip away, as poor shooting sunk the Lions efforts and West Texas began to pull out a sizable lead. The deficit was too much to surmount, and the Buffaloes cruised away with a 77-61 victory.
Reggie Reid led A&M-Commerce with 19 points and four assists to go with four rebounds. Willie Rooks scored 15 and Rodney Brown had 10.
The loss brings the Lions season to a close at a record of 24-9. This was the fourth time that A&M-Commerce had faced West Texas and lost, and the sixth loss in a row against the Buffaloes.
