The cards are dealt, and the tables are waiting for this year’s participants in the Bridge Event Fundraiser for the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum. Although the procedures remain the same for this fifth Bridge Event, the location has been changed. This year the event will be held April 8 at 1:30 p.m. in the home of Dr. Dan and Jalinna Jones, the President and First Lady of Texas A&M University-Commerce. Their home is located at 2900 Highway 24.
“Dr. Jones and Jalinna have supported many events at the Children’s Museum,” stated Sharline Freeman, Executive Director of the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum. “We appreciate the continuing support the Joneses give the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum. Our bridge ladies are looking forward to being in the president’s home, and we appreciate the willingness of the Joneses to open their home for this event.
Co-chairs for the event are Nancy McFarland and Toni Deaton. Nancy, as a former first lady of A&M-Commerce, brings her special insight into staging an event in the President’s home.
“Nancy has served as co-chair each year the event has been held,” Toni Deaton stated. “I especially appreciate her involvement for this year at the president’s home,”
“Our first Bridge Event was held in the old Winn-Dixie building at Live Oak and Highway 50 in 2003. Even though it was a successful event, the second Bridge Event was not scheduled until March, 2010,” Nancy McFarland said. “The event has been scheduled in consecutive years since then. We always enjoy seeing how much fun card players throughout the area have as they make new friends around the bridge table. It is an event that even the co-chairs look forward to each year.”
The event is an opportunity for ladies and men to meet Bridge players from throughout the area. Special instruction for beginners will be given by Sharon Fulkerson. Groups may play together for the first round or for longer by special arrangement.
In addition to a grand prize, additional prizes will be given. The afternoon of dessert and Bridge offers a unique opportunity for bridge players throughout the area. Although other events at the museum are for children, this is an event for mothers, grandmothers, and aunts.
All proceeds go to benefit the Children’s Museum. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum at 903-886-6055.
