A new business moved into downtown Commerce, sort of.
McKay’s Country Kitchen and Bar-B-Que moved from its location on 819 Park Street to the 1100 block of Main Street on Sept. 3.
Darleen McKay, owner of the restaurant, said she made the move to help revitalize the downtown area.
“We want to help bring people back to downtown,” she said.
McKay said she had thought about making the move for a while, and decided to once she received a call from Danny Duncan about it.
“A lot of different people were telling me to do it,” she said. “Danny Duncan offered me this building, and I knew it when I walked in. I just looked around and knew.”
A few changes have been made to the decor and menu, McKay said, but one thing is still the same, “Our chicken fried steaks are really good.”
McKay wanted to thank her workers Thelma Sparks and Tammi McConnell, who worked at the old location during the day and helped fix up the new one during the evening over a three week period.
McKay said she also wanted to thank her husband, “Who helped a little bit,” as well.
After being at the old location since August of 2012, McKay said it was the right time for a change in scenery.
“It was time for a fresh start here,” she said. “I really feel like I did the right thing.”
