Guilty plea in burglary at The Rail

Jones given probation, community service

COMMERCE — A local man has pleaded guilty to breaking into a Commerce nightclub last month.

Kain Michael Jones of Commerce admitted to stealing alcohol and money from The Rail early on the morning of Jan. 27.

During a Monday hearing in the 196th District Court, Jones entered a guilty plea to a charge of burglary of a building. Under a plea bargain arrangement, Jones was placed on five years of deferred adjudication probation, with 120 hours of community service.

Two suspects were allegedly caught on surveillance camera breaking into the business and removing 10, one-liter bottles of alcohol and about $200 in cash.

The status of charges against the second suspect was not immediately available.

Deferred adjudication probation carries no finding of guilt, although those defendants who are found to have violated a deferred probation are subject to being sentenced to the maximum punishment.

Jones was facing a maximum sentence of up to two years in a state jail and an optional fine of up to $10,000 for a conviction on the burglary charge.
