The Commerce Journal
Great things are happening in Commerce this weekend, and deserve the support from Commerce citizens.
I am encouraged with how well the city is working with the Relay for Life event and Commerce Community Church’s (C3) Run for the Nations 5k.
The city and police department worked with C3 in allowing the 5k to be in downtown Commerce, and Relay for Life was allowed to post flyers in City Hall and businesses downtown and all around the city as well.
Both of these organizations are doing great good in the work of missions and fighting cancer.
C3 is sending three of its members across the globe not only to preach the gospel, but also to teach English and meet other physical needs in the lives of Africans and East Asians.
Even if one is not a Christian, anyone can see the benefits that teaching English and other life skills will have in developing countries.
Relay for Life is an event that is going 10 years strong in Commerce, and has raised more than $100,000 for the American Cancer Society in its fight against cancer.
With these great events coming, Relay for Life at the Grid behind Whitley Hall at 7 p.m. on Friday, and Run for the Nations at 8 a.m. downtown, there are ample chances to support these causes.
Instead of spending your money on a movie on Friday, or sleeping in on Saturday, why not come out, stretch your legs and lend a hand in helping make the world a better place?
