Golfers finish fourth in Fort Smith

FORT SMITH —  A&M-Commerce Lions finished in fourth place as a team, and senior C.J. Clem posted his second straight top-10 finish as the Lions closed out the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lion Classic on Tuesday at Hardscrabble Country Club.

After posting four birdies in an opening-round 72 on Monday, Clem scored just one under-par hole on Tuesday, but managed to work his way to a 77 for the afternoon. That score left him with a 149 two-round total, good enough to land in a four-way tie for sixth place, three shots back of tournament co-champions Dylan Lovell (Ark.-Fort Smith) and Charles Mommaerts (Newman).

But Clem’s 77 was not the best for the Lions on the day, instead that came from Cade Grimm who responded from an 80 on Monday to card a four-over 74 on Tuesday, which left him in a tie for 18th place overall.

Marcus Sanna also turned in a 77 and finished in a tie for 25th, while Seth Maxwell closed out the Lion scoring, matching his first-round 79 with another 79 in round two to finish in a tie for 35th.

Meanwhile, Jay Cox finished with Sanna in a tie for 25th after carding an 80 in the final round.

In all, the Lions posted a 307 in the second round, just one shot behind its first-round 306, to total a 613 for the week. That effort slotted them one shot ahead of Rogers State for fourth place as a team, while Cameron picked up the tournament title with a two-round total of 596.
