A&M-Commerce Volleyball inks two to national letters of intent

COMMERCE — A&M-Commerce head volleyball coach Craig Case today announced a pair of additions to the Lion volleyball program. Delanee Clark and Neka Nelson have signed National Letters of Intent and will begin competing for A&M-Commerce in the fall of 2013.

Clark is a three year letterwinner at nearby Sunnyvalle High School, named the district’s Blocker of the Year in 2012 after earning Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2011. She has helped lead the Raiders to two-straight area final appearances and has been solid in the classroom as well, being named an Academic All-District selection for the past three years.

“Delanee is a strong player who continues to get better,” said Case. “She has good speed, good length, and a good volleyball IQ. All of those things should bode well for her as she comes in competing for a middle hitter position within our team. As she matures and grows in our program and systems her speed and length should serve her well positioning her to be a perennial force in our league.”

Nelson is another local product, earning three varsity letters at Mesquite High School. She was a first team All-District performer as a senior after earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore and has proven her abilities as an all-around athlete, becoming a four-time regional qualifier in track and field.

“Neka is an elite athlete and has the ability to have heavy production in our systems,” Case said. “With both her speed and ability to elevate she should be able to play very high above the net. We couldn’t be happier to have her join our program both on and off the court. She’s a great addition to our team and this is a good day for our program.”

Both players are joining a Lions team that has a lot of optimism heading into the 2013 season. A&M-Commerce is coming off a 20-win season in 2012 as well as advancing to the Lone Star Conference quarterfinals and returns a pair of All-LSC performers in Jordan Neal (second team setter) and Breanne Snyder (honorable mention outside hitter).
