A&M-Commerce falls to A&M-Kingsville

COMMERCE — Texas A&M University-Commerce started off well but then Texas A&M University-Kingsville rallied for a 16-25, 27-25, 23-25, 25-17, 19-17 Lone Star Conference volleyball victory on Oct. 26 at the Field House.

The Lions dropped to 11-3 for the season and 2-2 in LSC play while A&M-Kingsville improved to 9-8 and 2-3.

Kelsey Washington led the victors with 18 kills, while Dedra Brown put away 15 kills, Stephanie Johns had 13 and Shae Smith finished with 10.

Amy Davault paced the Lions with 17 kills, Clara Holmes had 16, Kayla Bond 15 and Breanne Snyder finished with 10 kills.

Jordan Neal set for 59 assists for A&M-Commerce and matched Davault for team-high in digs with 16. Michaela Spicer added 15 digs for the Lions.

“We let up a little in the second set and we stopped focusing on what we needed to be successful and we started playing one-on-one volleyball all over the place,” said Lions coach Craig Case. “I thought we executed okay offensively, we did not hit great towards the end but defensively we just did not execute.”

A&M-Commerce returns to the court on Wednesday to face No. 7 nationally-ranked Angelo State at 5 p.m. at the Field House. The Rambelles will be coming off a four-set loss to the No. 11 West Texas Lady Buffs.
